This policy explains what personal data China Travel Playbook ("we", "us") collects, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We keep this deliberately short and plain.
Who we are
China Travel Playbook publishes a digital travel guide for visitors to China. We are the data controller for the information described below. You can reach us at hello@chinatravelplaybook.com.
What we collect
- Email address — if you join our launch list or buy the guide.
- Order details — what you bought, when, and the amount. Card and payment details are handled entirely by our payment provider; we never see or store them.
- Basic technical data — such as pages visited and general region, collected only to understand what's working. We do not use this to identify you.
Why we use it
- To deliver the product you bought and give you access to it.
- To email you about your order, and — if you opted in — to send occasional product updates. Every such email has a one-click unsubscribe link.
- To meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations.
- To keep the site working and prevent abuse.
Who we share it with
We share the minimum necessary with service providers who help us run the business:
- Payment processing — our merchant-of-record partner handles the transaction, applicable taxes, and invoices on our behalf.
- Email delivery — our email service provider stores your address in order to send you messages.
- Hosting and infrastructure — our hosting provider processes technical request data.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with advertisers.
Cookies
We use only the cookies required to make the site function and to keep basic, aggregate statistics. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can block cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work.
How long we keep it
Launch-list emails are kept until you unsubscribe. Order records are kept as long as required for tax and accounting purposes, then deleted. Technical logs are kept for a short period and then discarded.
International transfers
Our service providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, transfers rely on recognised legal safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct data that is inaccurate.
- Delete your data ("right to be forgotten").
- Receive your data in a portable format.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.
Under California law, you also have the right to know what personal information we collect and to request its deletion. We do not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of on that front.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@chinatravelplaybook.com. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
This product is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell you by email.
